Norma returns to the Teatro Real after 102 years and it does so as part of the programme to commemorate the theatre’s bicentennial. The masterpiece by Bellini will be offered in its staged version for the first time since the re-opening of the Teatro Real. The American tenor Gregory Kunde will sing, in the first cast, the role of the Roman officer Pollione. Twelve performances will be given between October 20th and November 4th.
The American tenor now takes on the role of Pollione, after having opened the Teatro Real season singing the title role in Otello. Accompanying him on stage will be Michele Pertusi (Oroveso), Maria Agresta (Norma) and Karine Deshayes (Adalgisa), in the principal roles. Norma comes to the Teatro Real by the hand of Davide Livermore, the stage director of this co-production with Les Arts de Valencia and the ABAO-Bilbao. It will be conducted by Roberto Abbado.
