From September 15th to October 3rd, the Teatro Real of Madrid will be staging a new production of Verdi’s Otello, an opera in four acts with libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare’s Othello. The staging, which is a co-production with the English National Opera and the Kungliga Operan of Stockholm, inaugurates the new season. Gregory Kunde will give life to the main character, Otello, a Moorish general at the service of the Venetian Republic, who is consumed by jealousy. The musical direction of this Otello has been entrusted to Renato Palumbo, who will be conducting the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid and the choruses Intermezzo and Pequeños Cantores, both of Madrid. Stage direction is in the hands of the American David Alden. Accompanying Kunde on stage will be the tenor George Patean, as Iago, Alexey Dolgov, as Cassio, and Ermonela Jaho, as Desdemona.
