From November 30th to December 30th the Teatro Real will be staging Turandot, with musical direction by Nicola Luisotti and stage direction, set design and lighting by Bob Wilson. It is a co-production by the Teatro Real and the Canadian Opera Company, the National Theatre of Lithuania and the Houston Grand Opera. This spectacular opera also has a stellar cast that includes Gregory Kunde as Calaf. Irene Theorin and Yolanda Auyanet, singing the title role and Liù, respectively, will be on stage with the American tenor, who has recently sung the role with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta, and at the past edition of the Arena di Verona Festival. Puccini’s final work is one of the high points of the current season at the Teatro Real and all of its 18 performances will be dedicated to the memory of Montserrat Caballè, known for her fabulous interpretations of both Liù and Turandot.
